To parents of children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) the first few months after receiving a diagnosis can be very confusing. Parents are expected to research treatment options, contact government agencies for programs and services, find available professionals for their child, and be their child's 'case manager'. This can be an overwhelming process. New Parent Orientation is a place to start. New Parent Orientation for families of children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) helps families gain an understanding of the diagnosis, receive information on different treatment methods on autism, grasp the ever-chnaging government services and programs, and find available resources in their community. The New Parent Orientation is designed for families who are new to the diagnosis of an autism spectrum disorder. Parents who are waiting for a diagnosis are also welcome to the program.
