"Not only does it provide a safe, indoor and outdoor environment for our children to interact with other children, but they are guided and encouraged by professional staff who are ready and willing to play or lend a hand!"

Reach Youth and Child Development Society prides itself on being responsive to the needs of children and families in our community. We attempt to meet all needs that are identified to us or that we recognize from our work in the community. In order to do this we must reach beyond the funding we have been given from the Ministry for Children and Family Development. We must raise funds in the community, find creative ways to stretch our resources and enlist the help of others.

If you feel good about the work done by Reach and have the ability to help us support children and families in your community, we would love to hear from you. There are a wide variety of ways in which you can support us, and many good reasons to volunteer:

Experience personal growth, learning and satisfaction
  Pursue professional growth and development
  Create employment skills
  Expand your professional network
  Enjoy social interaction/meet new people
  Learn about children
  Learn about programs for children
  Fulfill a sense of empathy
Be a part of positive change in our community
  Have fun
  Build personal empowerment and self-esteem
Instill a value of giving and caring

Join Our Board of Directors!
Becoming a Board Member of the Reach Youth and Child Development Society is an opportunity to make a difference in the lives of children, and particularly in the lives of children with special needs. Regardless of background, skills and education, each and every one of us has the ability to effect change, to make a difference.

Some people become board members because a special needs child has touched their lives and they want to continue to learn and help others. Some individuals are looking for a way to become meaningfully involved in their community.

What is the Role of a Board Member?
Reach’s Board of Directors is a group of individuals elected to govern and set the directions of the organization. Reach can have up to twelve Directors on its Board representing family, business and community perspectives. The Board meets, generally one evening per month for approximately two hours, although some members may become more active in related areas of interest. The Board of Directors’ focus is on ensuring that the organization is addressing the needs of families, and providing its services in a responsive and accountable manner.

How Do I Become a Board Member?
If you are interested in becoming a Board Member, talk to one of our staff. Your name will be passed onto our Executive Director and the Board Recruitment Committee who will provide you with further information on the Society and Board responsibilities. Board members must first join the Reach Youth and Child Development as a Society member. Directors are elected by the Society membership for a one-year term at our annual general meeting held each year in September and at times are appointed throughout the year by the Board.

How Else Can I Support Reach ?
Becoming a Board member is just one of many ways to become involved in Reach. Talk to our staff, as many opportunities exist for volunteers within our programs. Our Fundraising Committee is always looking for support or an extra pair of hands as we strive to supplement government funding and serve the growing number of children on our waitlists.
