Fortis for Families Programs

Fortis for Families Description

FORTIS BC has expanded their funding to Reach Child and Youth Development Society (REACH) starting April 2023 for three years. The ‘FORTIS for FAMILIES’ initiative at REACH continues their support for FORTIS BC Sibshops, a monthly group for children and youth who have a sibling with a diagnosis.  It offers a safe and special place where siblings are provided education on neurodiversity and skill building where they can share similar experiences with children who understand.

‘FORTIS for FAMILIES’ also provides new funding for a designated REACH Behaviour Consultant to Indigenous Communities to address potential cultural barriers which can limit access to critical services and supports. This program also provides planning and in-person support for children with extra needs and their families in partnership with sc̓əwaθən məsteyəxʷ (Tsawwassen First Nation)

Please visit  Fortis for Families to learn more about the family centered support that is offered through this initiative.

What Is Reach Fortis BC Sibshops Program?

The Reach Fortis BC Sibshops program provides connections to children and youth who reside in Delta, Surrey, White Rock, and Langley and have a sibling with a diagnosis. Sibshops provides a forum where children and youth can come together and discuss the highs and lows of having a sib with a diagnosis. They can openly express their fears and joys and learn they are not alone in this journey. Fortis BC Sibshops includes family members and helps with skill building and mental health support to help families thrive.
