रीच ऑटिज्म कार्यक्रम क्या है?
Raising a child with autism can be challenging. We’re here to help. Our program teaches children and their families skills that allow positive participation in family activities, the community and success at school.
Our team includes Behaviour Consultants (BCs), Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs), Occupational Therapists (OTs), Associate Behaviour Consultants (ABCs), and Autism Interventionists (AIs).
We provide families with services that are guided by best practices. Click on the options below to learn about service options.

Parents can refer their child to the Reach Autism Program. Children need to
- Have a diagnosis of autism
- Be under the age 6
- Have access to Autism Funding through the Ministry of Children and Family Development

School Readiness
SCHOOL READINESS
Children learn teh skills they need to succeed in school when practicing those skills in a group.
DESCRIPTION:
• Each child will have an individualized learning plan
• Children learn in a group of 5-6 peers
• The group is run by a BC, SLP, and OT
• One to two BIs will assist by supporting children in the group
LEARNING AREAS AND GOALS:
• Social Skills: Children learn to communicate, interact and cooperate with other children
• Executive Functioning: Children learn flexibility, organization, self-monitoring, planning and problem solving
• Regulation: Children learn to regulate their emotions
• Academics: Children learn reading, counting, drawing and printing skills
HOURS:
• Children attend twice a week Mon/Wed or Tue/Thu
• Children attend for 4 hours per week for a 4 month block
• Blocks are Sep-Dec and Jan-Apr
REQUIREMENTS:
To benefit from this group, children need to be able to:
- Understand and follow directions
- Make choices
- Sit at the table for activities
- Play with toys
- Participate in activities with peers when supported
- Move from one activity to the next when supports are in place

Building Blocks
BUILDING BLOCKS
Children learn to regulate in a small group. They learn to interact, communicate and play together.
DESCRIPTION:
• Each child will have an individualized learning plan
• Children learn in a group of 2-3 peers
• The group is run by a BC, SLP and/or OT
• An ABC or an experienced BI will support children in the group
HOURS:
• Children attend twice a week Mon/Wed or Tue/Thu
• Children attend for 3 hours per week for a 4 month block
• Blocks are Sep-Dec, Jan-Apr, and May-Aug
LEARNING AREAS AND GOALS:
All children learn to:
• Communicate and play together
• Follow directions in a group
• Move from one activity to the next when supports are in place.
Families will also choose individualized goals for their child from the following areas:
• Communication
• Eating a variety of foods
• Concepts and early academics
• Toy play
• Drawing, printing, colouring and cutting
REQUIREMENTS:
To benefit from this group, children need to:
• Understand and follow some directions
• Make choices
• Stay with the group for activities

Learning Together
Research tells us hat children with autism are most successful when their families are involved in their learning and when they practice skills in their home and community. Parents can extend the learning opportunities for their child by including teaching strategies in everyday activities.
DESCRIPTION:
• Each child will have an individualized learning plan.
• 1-1 therapy with children and their parents by a BC/SLP/OT in their home or at a REACH centre.
• Services include in-person appointment and email, zoom or phone call for follow-up.
HOURS:
• Children attend 1-2 times a week with their parent for a 4 month block
• Blocks are Sep-Dec, Jan-Apr, and May-Aug
LEARNING AREAS AND GOALS:
Families choose individualized goals for their child from the following areas:
• Communication
• Toilet training
• Eating a variety of foods or eating with utensils.
• Emotional Regulation and behaviours
• Tolerating self-care routines (teeth brushing, hair cutting, nail trimming)
• Sleep
• Family interactions
• Dressing
• Toy play
REQUIREMENTS:
Children do not need any specific skills to succeed in this program.
Parents need to be available for all appointments with their child to learn teaching procedures.

Little Steps
Children develop their communication, play, fine motor and self-care skills in 1-1 sessions at a REACH centre. Families participate in their child’s intervention by practicing skills at home that their child learns in session.
DESCRIPTION:
• Each child will have an individualized learning plan
• Children learn 1-1 at a Reach Centre
• Parent participation is required for some goal areas
• All teaching is done by an AI, based on instructions provided by a BC and an SLP or OT
• The child’s BC, SLP/OT each observes one session per month to update goals and teaching strategies
• The child’s ABC attends one session per month
HOURS:
• Children attend twice a week Mon/Wed or Tue/Thu at a Reach Centre
• Children attend for 4 hours per week for a 4 month block
• Blocks are Sep-Dec, Jan-Apr, and May-Aug
LEARNING AREAS AND GOALS:
Children learn skills in 3-4 areas from a BI.
Parent participation is required to transfer some skills from the centre to home routines.
Families choose goals from the following areas:
• *Communication
• Concepts and early academics
• Toy play and interactions
• Fine motor skills including colouring, cutting, drawing and printing
• *Toileting
• *Dressing
• *Tolerating self-care routines such as teeth brushing, hair cuts, nail trimming
• *Eating a variety of foods
• *Emotional regulation
*Parent participation is required for these goals
REQUIREMENTS:
Children do not need any specific skills to succeed in this program.
Parents need to be available:
• For additional appointments to learn how to transfer their child’s skills to home routines
