Job Summary:
The Residential Support Worker (RSW) works in the Reach Respite Home, providing care for complex and challenging children and youth. The RSW provides day-to-day in-home direct care up to and including personal care to persons with developmental disabilities. The RSW participates as a member of the care team, facilitating activities and outings for children and youths and aids clients safely through behavioral needs and challenges.
Duties:
- Ensures that client’s physical, emotional, social, educational, and medical needs are met.
- Assists clients with activities of daily living and the development of life skills to enhance quality of life
- Administers personal care to clients when needed, such as aid in bathing, personal hygiene, dressing and undressing
- Plans and prepares meals and special diets, and feeds/assists in feeding clients when needed
- Performs routine health-related duties such as assisting in the administration of medications
- Performs or assists clients in routine housekeeping duties such as laundry, washing dishes and making beds
- Performs other duties as required
- Certification as a Community Care Worker or Residential Care Aid
- Six (6) months experience, or an equivalent of relevant education and experience

Job Profile:
BIs teach young children with autism how to play and communicate, learn school readiness skills, and develop self-help skills like teeth brushing and dressing. BIs are an important part of a child’s team and they work with other professionals like behaviour consultants, speech-language pathologists and occupational therapists.
BI Job Requirements:
- Loves children and enjoys playing with them
- Can work independently and as a member of a team
- Has strong organization and time management skills
- Is flexible and open to learning
- Can work with children with challenging behaviours
- Is physically fit to work with young children
- Has a valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle
- Has a current Child Safe First Aid Certificate (or be willing to update)
- Can pass a Criminal Records Check
- Works with children one to one in the child’s home or at a Reach centre
- Teaches children by following a program plan developed by the child’s team
- Records and tracks children’s progress
- Creates teaching materials utilizing Reach resources
- Participates and contributes to team meetings
- Participates in ongoing ABA training

As an Awake Overnight Respite Worker at REACH Child and Youth Development Society’s Respite Home,
you will play a vital role in caring for complex and challenging children and youth in a two- bedroom, respite home
setting. Your role will include monitoring individuals throughout the night and assist them to returning to bed if they wake,
supporting them with morning routines, perform or assist with personal care such as bathing or toileting and general housekeeping
as well as food preparation duties (as required). As per Reach Policies and Procedures, employees in a permanent position of 20+ hours per week are eligible (after passing probation) for extended health benefits and pension plan, as well as paid vacation and
sick time.
Shifts Available:
Sunday – Thursday
10:00 pm – 6:00 am
37.5 hours per week
Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday
10:00 pm – 6:00 am
30 hours per week
Tuesday - Saturday
11:00 pm – 7:00 am
37.5 hours per week
Key Responsibilities:

Qualifications/ Requirements:

challenging behaviour) experience.
